Catherine Bullock started writing haiku in 1999, and her work has been published in a number of journals and anthologies, in New Zealand and overseas. She has also been placed or commended in several competitions.
Her haiku and senryu often have a humorous twist. Catherine, who spends most of her free time wrestling with her garden, lives in Waihi. Email Catherine.
drifting out to sea
on the ebbing day
walking in the sun
a bird’s shadow
swoops through mine
camp kitchen –
watching someone else’s
by the lake
in my eyes
the spiders climb back
to spotless corners
the ascending scale
as the nail
is hammered home
bright day –
stirring the sun
into my paintpot
muggy heat mytoffeessticktogether
evening calm –
the width of the estuary
holiday cottage –
next door’s rowdy
