August 2020: Last month some lucky Kiwi writers spent a Sunday morning (NZ time) with Michael Dylan Welch to chat and for two presentations by Michael. I came away feeling refreshed and thinking about some new possibilities in how to present our short poems. You can read Michael’s presentation, Going Nowhere: Learning Haiku from Pico Iyer, or watch it online with a group meeting hosted by an American library. Thanks to Sue Courtney for facilitating the cross-Pacific meeting.
This month there are a couple of face-to-face writing workshops in Hamilton listed in Haiku Happenings, as well as the results of the NZPS senior haiku contest. In the monthly article, Paul Miller takes a generous view of the dangling participle, one that encourages a broader way of reading some haiku. The Contest listing has been updated through to the end of October.
