March Haiku NewZ

I’m excited about the arrival of number eight wire: the fourth New Zealand haiku anthology, edited by myself and Margaret Beverland. After much backwards and forwards getting the text just right, we finally pushed ‘go’ on the print job and had our launch in Tauranga on March 10. Read more, including a link to ordering information at Haiku Happenings.

That’s also where you’ll find news of Donald Keene’s passing in Japan after a long and distinguished career, NZ Flash Fiction Day, and International Haiku Poetry Day, among other things.

The Contest listing has been updated through to the beginning of June. Please remember that the list is refreshed as information comes to hand so it’s always worth checking back during the month.

In this month’s article Charles Trumbull, former editor of Modern Haiku, examines the use of words in haiku – which are sometimes called ‘wordless poems’.
