We are pleased to invite you to our first cultural event of the year, a Meet & Greet with the artists Volker Strübing, Goethe-Institut artist-in-residence at the Physics Room in Christchurch, and Yuka Oyama, Te Whare Hera artist-in-residence in Wellington.
When: Thursday, the 25th of January, 5:30 pm for a 6pm start
Yuka and Volker will both present a glimpse into their work and their life as artists-in-residence and there will be plenty of opportunity to mingle afterwards.
Volker Strübing, born in 1971 in the former GDR, is an author, poetry-slammer and artist who has worked as a producer and director of travel documentaries. He held the position of the first “city scribe” of the German city of Bayreuth and also produces an ongoing cartoon film series. Volker has documented his residency of two-and-a-half-months in Christchurch in a blog.
Yuka Oyama is a Japanese/German Berlin based artist who was born in Tokyo and grew up in Malaysia, Japan, and Indonesia. She sets person and worn object into performance, with the resulting wearable sculptures documented via photography and film, and presented in installations. The results of her most recent project dealing with the theme of home will be part of the “The Language of Things” exhibition at The Dowse Art Museum.
We are looking forward to an inspiring evening and hope to see you there!
