The University of Canterbury Department of English is offering a unique opportunity to study modern poetry over summer with Professor Stephen Burt, a literary critic and poet who teaches at Harvard University. Professor Burt has been described by The New York Times as “one of the most influential poetry critics of his generation.”
Don’t worry if you haven’t studied a lot of poetry in the past because Professor Burt has designed this course to suit students with various levels of knowledge and understanding. The course will introduce you to the high points and key parts of modern and contemporary poetry in English from W.B. Yeats to the present day, focusing on some of the major writers, movements and anthologies, and including figures from Britain, Ireland, the USA and New Zealand. Plenty of attention will be paid to individual poems.

When: Seminars will take place from 1-4 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Seminars begin on 29 Nov 2016 and end on 31 Jan 2017
